Four scrapbooks containing materials related to Stanley H. Witmeyer and the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). Witmeyer was a former Dean of the College of Fine and Applied Arts at RIT. The scrapbook contains information on Witmeyer and the Institute's history. The Stanley H. Witmeyer scrapbooks consist of four volumes of materials related to Witmeyer and the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). The books are arranged chronologically, with volumes covering each of the following date ranges: 1906-1954, 1954-1969, 1959-1970, and 1968-1973. Within each volume are various kinds of documents including clippings, correspondence, programs, invitations, promotional materials, and other forms of ephemera. Some of the items, particularly the older documents, do not relate to Witmeyer, but to the university and its history.

It is unclear when the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) first admitted minority students. However, it appears as though the first African American students entered the Rochester Athenaeum and Mechanics Institute (renamed RIT in 1944) during the early 1900s. For instance, in 1906 Fredericka Sprague, the granddaughter of Frederick Douglass, took classes at the Institute. Stanley Herbert Witmeyer was born in Palmyra, PA in 1913. One of eight children, Witmeyer started playing basketball at a nearby church in the afternoons. After graduating from a technical high school, he attended the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), then known as the Rochester Athenaeum and Mechanics Institute (RAMI), where he earned his art degree.
